Dave
Klumb - Musher/Support
I moved to Alaska
from Wisconsin in February 1979, just in time to experience -50
temperatures. Well, I was hooked and within a year started to
drive a dog team. In 1983 I served on the first Board of Directors
for the Yukon Quest and was the second musher to sign up for the
inaugural Quest. It was during this first race that I discovered
that competitive mushing was not for me. What I did develop though
was a passion for building dogsleds. It was through this business
that a customer became a friend, then a wife. Now Joanne and I
operate Laughing Husky Enterprises, Alaska's largest dogsled shop.
Along with this we have a yard full of beautiful Laughing Huskies
that we run whenever we can, usually in the Chatanika Valley where
we have a remote cabin. We are looking forward to switching between
the dogs and snowmachine on our way to Nome, doing what we enjoy,
traveling through bush Alaska.
