TONI
SCHMIDT - 2007 MUSHER
Born 1941 and raised in Switzerland,
he began mushing in 1967 with one Siberian Husky, a Pulka sled and
XC skis.
He soon got into working for various sled dog club boards and committees,
helping to develop the sled dog sport in Switzer-land and Western
Europe. He has been racing sled dogs, mostly in sprint racing, for
over 20 years in Europe, participated in the Alpirod in 1990 &
91 and the Coldfoot Classic in 1989 as well as the Serum Run in
2001. After retiring from his professional position as a civil engineering
consultant, he loves to spend as much time as possible in Alaska
and presently helps train dogs with Sven Haltmann. He will be running
a team of young to be Iditarod dogs in support of the great ideas
expressed by the Serum Run.
